3D printing is becoming increasingly popular and today many companies are using 3D printing to create products. When a model is printed with a smaller print volume, the individual parts often have to be put together after printing. This takes more time. Second, with a smaller print volume you are dependent on a fixed scale. For example, an architect may want to display a model in a larger scale to show the details. The more you reduce the scale, the more details you lose. This is why a larger print volume is often preferred in the architecture and medical industries.

Producing in the same batch

In addition, it offers the possibility of producing multiple products in the same batch. If the intention is to produce in batch, a 30×30 cm print bed is more suitable than a 20×20 cm print bed. Producing the same batch on a smaller print bed takes more time because you have to start the print several times.

However, building in the z-axis often results in a smaller footprint and sometimes causes inaccuracy. It is easier for manufacturers to expand their 3D print volume in the z-axis than in the x- or y-axis, because only the product moves in the z-axis.
